3:53 pm - new boxed set from Ryko

Something "new", thought you'd be interested. I'll probably buy it for the DVDs and download card alone.

So when is this supposed new music and live material coming out?

11:03 am - Cool

I bought a USB VCR. In my collection I have two Bill shows from Chicago that the club filmed. I was at one of them (if I remember correctly, I can see myself in some of the shots, I'll know later).

I'm ripping them to a file right now. I've wanted to watch these again for years now, but didn't have a VCR.

4:26 pm

I wonder if this is the right place to ask...

Hello, fellow vibrations. Would any of you recommend Kevin Booth's book? I see it in the interests on the profile of this community; I've previously overlooked it, and now it seems to be out of print -- no worries, that's what we have the internet for.

I've spent two years laughing and crying along to Hicks. I think I need some reading material to beef up my inner maniac. I see that the letters/lyrics book is unavailable to Chapters (a big bookstore chain), as well. Again, internet-save-me-now-hallelujah. Aside from Booth's, are there any other sort of definitive books on our favored subject? (I seem to be missing out on this end of things. All I have is my video/audio track collection. I love books, but somehow deluded myself that there couldn't possibly be any on Sir Hicks. I am amazingly ignorant at times.)

Thanks, and thanks again.

8:44 pm - A day full of Bill References

I went out on a rare shopping trip with my husband today, and I kept thinking about Bill Hicks.

For some reason I said the"what's for fucking breakfast" line on the way to breakfast.

When we went to breakfast, Debbie Gibson came on the radio, which immediately made me think of the "shake her love in half" line. :)

We were looking at DVD's and "Shane" was there.

And one or two other things I can't remember offhand.

So it really is true... where there is love, laughter, and friendship, Bill IS there!

9:07 am - Bill (almost) quoted on Countdown

it's not until the end, but Olbermann has a hard time thinking of a way to describe Rush Limbaugh so he (almost) quotes Bill Hicks, but then decides that Bill's quote wouldn't make it on the air so he prompts people to look it up for themselves

still, made me chuckle

current mood: amused

3:17 pm - now we know

I was at the State Fair in Wisconsin over the weekend. one of the booths at the fair was the Gideons! the booth was maintained by two very friendly Gideons who were handing out blaze orange editions of the New Testament and answering any questions people might have. with Bill in mind, i walked up to the friendly Gideon

ME: hello
Gideon: good afternoon. would you like a New Testament
ME: thanks. hey, i have a couple of questions
Gideon: sure
ME: where are you guys from?
Gideon: where are we from? well i'm from Minnesota but i live in-
ME: no, i mean the Gideons. do y'all come from Gidea?
Gideon: *chuckles* no. headquarters is in Nashville, Tennesee
ME: alright, there's one question. next, are you guys ninjas?
Gideon: *laughing* ninjas?
ME: yeah. i open up the drawer in the hotel and the book in there says "placed here by the Gideons." and i'm wondering when, 'cause i've been sitting here watching Discovery Channel all day and i didn't see anyone!
Gideon: *laughing some more* no, we're not ninjas. leastwise i wasn't given ninja training
ME: so the traps i set to catch a Gideon and tag him like a shark to study his movements?
Gideon: probably wouldn't work
ME: because of the ninja skills you're not telling me about?
Gideon: no, because we only drop off bibles every six months or so at hotels
ME: no ninjas?
Gideon: no ninjas
ME: you're sure?
Gideon: i am
ME: well alright. thanks, man
Gideon: God bless you

he seemed a really friendly sort but he also seemed really confused at the questions. but i saw a Gideon. i even got a picture of him

i learned something

current mood: cheerful

7:36 am - Jim Fixx

Yesterday my wife and I were walking around the Goodwill store and I was covering my usual points of interest.  books, records and wood stuff.  Anyway looking through the mainly crappy looking books I found a book about Running by a James Fixx.  At first I did not realize who the author was but then I noticed and it made me laugh to myself.  I almost bought it for curious collection purposes but I didn`t.

Should I have?  I do kind of like weird books from Goodwill as I am ( along with my wife) attempting to build a brilliant library.

Anyway just thought I would mention my Bill Hicks moment.  Oddly enough right outside the Goodwill there was a fare in town.  My wife and I took our 11 month old son on the ferris wheel thing  Which of course makes me think.

It`s just a ride.

12:43 am - promos are a pretty good barometer for this sort of thing, right?

CBS is running promos for the Bill HIcks appearance, so I'd say it seems pretty certain.

1:57 pm - It's back on!

According to billhicks.com and several e-mails in my inbox, the Letterman show is still a go. And will also feature an appearance by Bill's mom!

The Late Show with David Letterman has scheduled a telecast of the never-aired October 1, 1993 Bill Hicks appearance. The show was pre-taped Jan. 26th (with Bill's mom as a guest) and will air Friday, January 30th on your local CBS affiliate. We'd like to acknowledge and thank Bill's many fans and everyone who has had a hand in keeping Bill's comedy and philosophy alive. We hope everyone can tune in and experience what you may have missed or what you barely remembger -- Bill Hicks performing for a national audience on network television.

7:08 pm - Hmmm

The notice on billhicks.com about the Letterman appearance is strangly missing all of a sudden...it was there on the news page as plane as day earlier.

Not sure what this means. I plan to keep an eye out for it anyway.

1:17 pm - Set Tivos on stun!

I just got word from those in the know that The Late Show with David Letterman has scheduled a telecast of the never-aired October 1, 1993 Bill Hicks appearance. The program it will be shown on Friday, January 30th on your local CBS affiliate is currently set for taping in New York City on Monday, January 26th.

Excerpt from The Konformist

On 1 October 1993, the comedian Bill Hicks, after doing his twelfth gig on the David Letterman show, became the first comedy act to be censored at CBS's Ed Sullivan Theatre, where Letterman was in residence and where Elvis Presley was famously censored in 1956. Presley was not allowed to be shown from the waist down. Hicks was not allowed to be shown at all. It's not what was in Hicks' pants but what was in his head that scared the CBS panjandrums.
